Note to Self...January 13, 2025
Part 1: What is a RESOLVED Leader? We are moving beyond the term "Servant Leadership" and expanding its roots to how we become a RESOLVED Leader. Servant describes the leadership path itself. It is NOT a type, but rather a mindset and "heart" set focused on how we meet the needs of those we influence over time. We are now expanding this to the concept that you must be RESOLVED (not resigned) to stay on the path and lead in this manner each and every day. Being RESOLVED is a step deeper than simply serving. Often we resign ourselves to things (just accepting that we must do it or that’s just the way it is supposed to be), rather than RESOLVING ourselves to it, through: - True and humble curiosity - Constant and growing self-awareness - Accountability to purposeful Agape love And we sometimes think we’re resolved when, in reality, we are only resigned. This is why we don’t stick with it; we have no persistence. RESOLVED has a permanence that resigned does not. If we want to serve, lead, and manage well (we will come back to this word later), we must RESOLVE ourselves to do ALL of them. Service is one component (a major one, yes) of WHO we are and WHY we lead. I love the analogy within music of consonance and dissonance. Harmony is how we hear things and resolving the melody is an intentional act by the writer and artist. Our job as leaders is to create this harmony by resolving the "music" our people hear. More to come on this over the next several weeks.
