Note to Self...March 3, 2025
Kindness is NOT weakness For 15 years, Resolved Leadership has talked about the foundation of servant leadership – the Agape form of LOVE. This core element provides the framework for leading others, and simply interacting with others. We use the passage from 1 Corinthians 14:4-8 in our Academy. The second statement in verse 4 simply says, “Love is kind.” The agapeo form of the word love is used here, which is the action form. It says nothing about a feeling, an emotion, or even a thought. It is ACTION. One component of love is simply BEING kind. I believe that as leaders we not only desire to exhibit kindness, but I believe that people have a right to expect it. Kindness is NOT weakness. Kindness is the ultimate strength – being kind in all circumstances shows strength of character, confidence in your own ability, and recognition of the needs of others. This requires steadfastness in the face of a storm. That is the ultimate strength. Weakness is flopping around like a fish when things change, taking it out on others when things don’t go our way, or taking a selfish view and making things about MY needs. That is weakness. So I ask you: Should we strive, as servant leaders, to put this into action? Should we look for small opportunities to act in kindness to those we lead and serve? I believe that we should. I believe that I should. Intentionality is a word that we need to put into our vocabulary more often. I want to be intentional about being kind each and every day. I fail most days, but maybe, just maybe, the one day I get it right, I pass along something that makes someone else’s day. Now there is a goal for us all – be the reason someone else has a good day.
